Pressing the Cruise Control in Life
God has a way of presenting me life lessons in some of the most unique and unexpected ways. Because these lessons are so unique and surface at some of the oddest of times, I can’t help but remember them and refer to them when specific opportunities present themselves.
Recently, my family and I took a road trip to the East Coast. Not even an hour into our trip, and I got pulled over for speeding. Lead foot runs in my family, so I come by it honestly. ;-) Anyway, I was thankfully given a warning, a stern talking to, and was soon sent along my way. Driving off after getting pulled over, I became paranoid watching the speed limit like a hawk, yet nervous I would once again get pulled over. Deciding my stressing should come to an end, I recalled the cruise control button. In all transparency, I never used this thing but I knew its purpose. Cruise control meant keeping me from getting pulled over and being free to drive without fear of speeding, so I pressed it!
Life lesson: As humans we have a strong desire to control our lives and what happens in our lives, even in times of trouble. We think we can control the situation, we can control the speed, but what happens when we get distracted by life and forget? How often are we comfortable in taking our hands off of our troubles, or our lives in general to allow God to direct us? I know for me, not often enough but I am learning quickly! Cruise control, which could also be looked at as God, is available to us for a reason. Not just to use in times of need, but to use to keep us on track, and in a place where we no longer have to worry about the speed limits in our lives.
Why stress when you can press the cruise control? It’s there to use, so use it!
