My DIY Painting
I found this painting on Refinery 29 and wanted to try it. It seemed pretty easy and straightforward but the taping is pretty intensive.
I decided to start the taping on the top of the frame more exact and let it slowing become less and less precise, inevitably trailing off and becoming blank canvas. That was my intention, but you can do whatever you want to do with this project. After all, it is a DIY! I haven’t decided yet, but may end up painting over it and starting over. We will see.
What you will need:
- At least 4 of your choice of acrylic paints of your color scheme
- 1 bottle of white acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Painter’s tape (get the thinner kind)
First, use the colors and apply on the canvas as you wish. Once you get the canvas painted, allow to dry until dry to the touch.
Second, tape over the painted canvas how you would like the design of your painting to be. This is purely up to you. The taping is tricky but once you get the idea it becomes a little easier.
Third, once the canvas is taped cover the entire painting in white acrylic paint. Allow to dry. This is why you see me with the fan. I wanted to be sure it was dry so I used the fan to help quicken the drying time.
Fourth, once dry, gently pull off the pieces of tap and there you have your very own DIY painting!
Have fun with it and be creative. It doesn’t have to be exact or perfect. I am S-L-O-W-L-Y accepting of the DIY’s with some imperfections,
